TV Buying Tips for Energy-conscious Consumers

Focus on Energy has some energy-smart suggestions for your customers looking to purchase new TVs for the transition:

  • Look for an ENERGY STAR qualified model.
  • Remember that TVs with larger screens cost more to use, and plasma sets consume more energy than LCD.
  • Keep ENERGY STAR qualified TVs at their factory default settings. Enabling additional features may increase energy consumption.
  • For standard models, turn down the set’s contrast and brightness settings. Most TVs ship with the setting too “hot” by default. Enable energy saving options if available.
  • Turn the set off when not in use.
