Water Main Flushing In Progress

We will attempt to mail a letter to customers affected by the flushing procedure. Temporary signs will be placed on street corners in neighborhoods where flushing occurs. Flushing will take place from Monday to Friday 7:00am to 2:30pm

While flushing is underway, customers may notice large amounts of water in the streets, a temporary drop in water pressure, or water that is discolored or cloudy. The discoloration of water is caused by the presence of naturally occurring sediment and does not create a health concern. If you notice sediment in the water from house faucets during the period of flushing, we recommend that you turn off the inside faucet, then allow water to run from an outside hose bib or the cold water tap of the bathtub until the water runs clear. Please use caution to avoid using refrigerator door water lines or ice makers until water has cleared.

Here are some FAQs :

Why is my water pressure low?

Your water pressure may be low due to the flushing of fire hydrants, which lowers the water pressure in the area that is being tested. This issue will be rectified once flushing is complete.

Why is my water discolored?

Water discoloration or turbid water is caused by the stirring of sedimentation in the water main when hydrants are flushed.

If water is discolored, is it safe for consumption?

Yes. The discoloration is caused by harmless mineral deposits which settle in the water main and are stirred during the flushing activity.

If it OK to wash laundry when water is discolored?

No. Please run the bathtub cold water tap, or outside house bibb for approximately 15 minutes or until water clears. Check water clarity by capturing a sample from the washing machine in a clear glass or container. If water is cloudy or discolored, please do not wash laundry.

Waupun Utilities apologizes for any temporary inconvenience you may experience; however, the flushing program is necessary to maintain our water supply system for domestic consumption and fire protection.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
