October Is Energy Awareness Month
Waupun Utilities holds an annual event offering energy conservation items to help customers realize the importance of energy saving measures. In conjuction with promoting energy education, the Utilities offers renewable energy options to support alternative energy sources.
A time to raise awareness of energy issues was first set aside in 1981 with American Energy Week. It then became a month-long observance in 1986. In 1991, former President George H.W. Bush proclaimed October as Energy Awareness Month.
The U.S. Department of Energy campaign stresses the importance of conserving energy and making smart, clean energy choices. It is also a time to raise awareness about how we use energy, where energy comes from and how individual decisions affect the supply and cost of energy.
